For Sri Lankan families in East London

Newham is home to one of Britain's largest Sri Lankan communities. East Ham, Manor Park and Ilford have long been home to Sri Lankan Tamil families, with Tamil grocers, temples and Sunday Tamil classes close by. When you are in Colombo, Jaffna or Kandy and cannot be there for a birthday, a new baby or an anniversary, a cake from a bakery nearby brings you a little closer.

Some senders are parents whose son or daughter is studying in London, often at the University of East London in Stratford and Docklands or at Queen Mary in Mile End. Put the postcode of their hall or shared flat into the cart to check we deliver there. Add the room or flat number and their UK mobile so the driver can find them.

Dates families plan around

  • Deepavali: Sunday 8 November 2026For Tamil families in London. Festival weekends fill first, so choose your date in the cart a week or two ahead.
  • ChristmasFor Christian families, and for students spending the holidays in London. December dates go quickly, so book early in the month.
  • UK Mother's Day: Sunday 7 March 2027Sri Lanka marks Mother's Day on Sunday 9 May 2027, but a mother living in London will see the UK day all around her in March.
  • Eid al-Fitr 2027Expected around 9 to 10 March 2027, depending on the moon. For Sri Lankan Muslim families, a milk cake tray suits the Eid table.
  • Sinhala and Tamil New Year: Wednesday 14 April 2027Aluth Avurudu and Puthandu fall midweek this time. If the family gathers at the weekend instead, pick that date in the cart.

Questions from senders in Sri Lanka

Can I send a cake to London from Sri Lanka?

Yes. Place the order on our website from Colombo, Jaffna, Kandy or anywhere else in Sri Lanka. We bake it in our Dagenham kitchen and our own driver brings it to their East London door for £4.99, on the date and time slot you pick in the cart.

Will my Sri Lankan card work?

Most Visa, Mastercard and Amex credit or debit cards work if your bank allows online payments abroad. Banks set their own overseas limits, so check yours in the app before you pay. Google Pay works with cards from banks that support it, and PayPal is an option too.

Is the price in Sri Lankan rupees?

No, prices are in pounds. Your bank converts the amount to rupees at its own rate and usually adds a fee of a few percent. The live box near the top of this page gives a rough rupee figure for a £32.99 birthday cake.

How do I choose the delivery date?

Add a cake to the cart, enter their London postcode and choose a date and time slot there. Slots are in UK time, which is 4 and a half or 5 and a half hours behind Sri Lanka. Only dates we can still deliver are offered.

Can you write a Tamil or Sinhala greeting on the cake?

Yes, written in English letters, as we pipe in the English alphabet only. For Tamil or Sinhala script, message us on WhatsApp before you order and we will tell you what is possible.

Will my family know the cake is from me?

Yes. Put your name in the cake message or the gift note, for example "Love from Amma and Thaththa in Kandy", and it goes to the door with the cake.

What if they are not home when you deliver?

Add their phone number at checkout. If nobody answers, the driver will try to contact them. Choose a time slot when someone will be in.

Are the cakes halal?

Yes. Every cake is halal, with no alcohol and no animal gelatine.
